The 29th International Chair Exhibition will take place in Udine between September 8th and 11th, 2005. The first Chair Exhibition was held in 1977, initiated by some industrialists of the Chair Triangle to encourage the local industry to approach the market directly, under their own names, in contrast to acting as subcontractors to furniture companies. At the same time the Exhibition publicised the specialisation of the area. Since 1984 its organisation has been in the hands of Promosedia and has grown from a regional, to a national and then an international exhibition. In fact it is the only international exhibition in the world dedicated to seating and is an event not to be missed for thousands of members of the trade world-wide: buyers, importers, agents, wholesalers, retailers, architects, designers and the media. Visitors to Udine can see more than 5,000 products: chairs in every imaginable material, for all market sectors, for residential, hospitality, public areas, and offices, as well as armchairs, tables and desks. Over the years increasing numbers of exhibitors from other parts of Italy, Europe and Overseas have joined those of the Chair District, proof of the promotional and commercial value of the Exhibition. The International Chair Exhibition is a gauge for new trends in design, technology and marketing. It is for this reason that not only the most demanding members of the trade regularly attend the exhibition but also journalists from all over the world in order to personally experience the phenomenon of the Industrial Chair District, the latest innovations by important industrial groups and examine the offerings of Italian and foreign manufacturers and to take part in the programme of side events.
Indeed the Exhibition is an important event from a cultural and educational facet as well. Chairs and their design are subjects of awards, displays and side events, which enrich the Exhibition year after year. The “Top Ten” Awards are aimed at design and technology of chair making. Art exhibitions of international importance and the " Caiazza Memorial Challenge: International design competition", open to students and young designers from the European Union, which is an important and crucial opportunity for contact between new design talents and manufacturers.
This unique international seating showcase is constantly changing and improving, an invaluable point of reference for the international market, a stimulus for research in design and quality, and a gallery of ideas in spreading the understanding and culture of seating. |
